Grace Sarojini (Pilla) was born on July 31, 1918 in Bangalore, India. She was the sixth child in a family of eight to Dr. Paul Chinnappa and Grace Elizabeth Silas. After graduating from London Mission High School and Maharani's College she taught briefly in Bangalore High School. On the 20th of October 1939, she married Chinniah Doraiswamy in Bangalore. They had six children; one son, the late Paul C Doraiswamy and five daughters, Melly Rohini, Nalini Lallu Rita, Marjorie Rasilini, Pamela Sulochini and Merlyn Kalyani. Sarojini’s family lived in many cities in India until her husband retired as the Inspector General of Prisons in 1961 and they settled in Bangalore. She had 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Grace was a faithful child of God. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, beloved mother, mother-in-law, loving grandmother and great grandmother. Her love and charity has touched everyone's heart in a special way. She was a talented musician, piano player, and tennis and basketball player. She was an excellent cook who opened her home and heart to everyone that came to her door. She is remembered as an angel and a compassionate "amma" (Mother). Her laughter and beautiful smile will be dearly missed.
