Gene Ramer was a man of many talents. He was a Colorado native, which is pure magic to those who are natives; he loved to visit his property in Granby, where you could find him on his boat with a fishing rod in one hand, and a beer in the other; he loved to make Mexican food, which requires no small amount of skill, and a sensational amount of love; he could bowl, and put many in his seniors league to the top with his skills; and he raised 4 children, loved and cared for 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and somehow remained married for 52 years.
Eugene Walter Ramer was born in Brush, Colorado on March 29th. To his parents, Walter and Emma, he was their precious baby boy. To his siblings, Jerry and Janice, the verdict is still out. At some point in his young life, his parents moved to the city. Denver was new, and he attended Manuel High School. After high school he attended a trade school where he learned to fix appliances. He loved to dance, and did very well with it. The Korean War broke out, and Gene heard the call. He enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. On his return home he continued his trade, fixing appliances. He was mister fix it and could fix just about anything. He even owned his own appliance repair shop.
52 years ago, Gene married a sweet lady by the name of Vera. Opposites must attract because Vera is sweet, and I’m sure Gene had to flatter her up pretty good with his feisty and fun essence. Together they threw some of the best parties. Vera would say that there was a party to be thrown, and Gene would go along with it because he knew there was fun involved. Among their 52 years Vera called Gene by many names, but she will remember him most as the man who would flatter anyone, her Honey, her husband.
Gene was DAD to Michael (John), Wayne (Barbara), Rhonda (Dave), and Sheila (Ken). They will remember him for his jokester ways, and for just being their Dad, which is a simple sentiment that means so much. He loved his grandchildren, Dave, Andy, Amanda, Jennifer, Sarah, Christopher, Heather, Matt and Ryan, and they will host many parties in his honor, with his other favorite people: his great-grandchildren, Trey, Jonathan, Katlyn, Doug, Isabel, Kaleb, Sierra, Savanna, Dalton, Cody, and Aubrey Joe. He will be remembered as brother to Jerry and Janice.
This man, this lover of the great outdoors, this fun loving and ornery man, who was a husband, and a father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather, a great cook, a gardener, a fisherman, a great party thrower, a dancer, and a man of pure joy will be deeply missed. Gene passed away on August 23rd, 89 years young. To know Gene was to know what it felt like to laugh until your sides hurt. His legacy of light and laughter is carried on by his family.
Those who wish to greet Gene’s family may do so on Monday, September 2nd from 3-5PM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary in Centennial, Colorado. Gene will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 3rd at 11am, also at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary. He will be laid to rest at Ft. Logan National Cemetery following his Celebration of Life at 2:15PM.
Gene will be wonderfully remembered, forever loved, and missed.
