Alfred H. Platt, 97, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home on November 15, 2020.
Alfred was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 22, 1923 to George and Edna Platt. He grew up in Woodbury, Connecticut and graduated from Duke University in 1947 after he served two years in the Army during WWII. His professional career was in the oil and gas industry. Notably, he worked as an executive for Skelly Oil Company (now Chevron) when he was assigned to Seoul, South Korea during early 1960s. Remarkably, he stayed in Seoul for over 20 years and successfully managed the joint venture with the Korean government and the oil company. During this time, he met his wife Chung-un through a diplomat friend and his daughter Susan was born in 1970. Al’s career allowed him to travel extensively to Asia and Europe. When he retired in 1984, he moved his family to Colorado since he loved the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. His retirement life brought him joy, especially when his grandson Andrew was born in 2009. His favorite sport was baseball and in 2007, he was lucky enough to attend the World Series game with his son-in-law Tom. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, wonderful father and father-in-law and a loving grandfather. One of his favorite saying was “be kind”, and this is exactly how he chose to live his life.
Alfred is survived by his wife Chung-un and his daughter Susan. He was blessed with having one grandson, Andrew. He was pre-deceased by George, Edna, and Marion Platt.
