After courageously battling Alzheimer’s for many years, on January 1, 2018 our beloved, Beryl Blanche (Cowan) Jackson passed away peacefully at her residence in Arvada, CO. In the days, hours and minutes before she passed, she was surrounded by many of her loved ones and family members.
Beryl was born in 1931 on the Cowan family homestead just outside of Leith, North Dakota, on the banks of the Cannonball River. The first born of ten girls, she was delivered by her loving Grandmother, Bridie (Doherty) Cowan on March 24th. She spent her early childhood on the North Dakota family farm and her teenage years in Denver, CO where she attended Annunciation Catholic High School.
In Denver, Beryl met and married Robert Hennemann with whom she had three children, Robert, Charlene and Carol. Later, she married Jim Jackson and the family moved to Chickasha, OK where she had two more children, Sheila and Susan. Ultimately, Beryl became a single parent and raised all five children with the strength, love and determination that only a Mother can exhibit.
Beryl was a kind, generous soul and spent most of her life caring for others including her 9 younger sisters, her 5 children, her 5 grandchildren, and her parents. As a friend once pointed out, she was always accepting of her children’s friends & would feed anyone who was in need of family on a holiday. She loved working in the garden, driving or hiking in the mountains, and playing cards or board games, especially Scrabble, which she was quite good at. She was also an avid baseball fan and particularly enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies. Throughout her life, she was a cook, a gardener, a Sunday school teacher, a nanny, a writer, a nurse’s aide and an elementary school teacher’s assistant. More importantly, she was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, a friend and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Beryl is survived by her children and their spouses; Robert Hennemann (Heidi), Charlene Suess (Bill), Carol Bayliss (Scott), Susan Jackson (Cindy), her grandchildren and their spouses; Billy Suess (Melissa), Larissa Welsh (Cris), Jenna Watts (Jeremy), Blake Hennemann, and her great grandchildren Piper Suess & Hank Suess. She is also survived by five of her sisters, Virgina Slater (Sam), Phyllis Lenhart, Shirley Hansen, Doris Cowan, Roberta Cowan and many of her beloved nieces and nephews.
Beryl is preceded in death by her daughter Sheila Bjerke, granddaughter Laura Suess, her parents Willard Beryl Cowan & Blanche (Kennelly) Cowan and four sisters Eileen Cox, Patricia Cowan, Linda Murrah, and Beverly Ann Cowan, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm, Thursday, January 4, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121.
