Bonnie Mae Davis was born in Yuma Colorado on May 13, 1926. She was raised primarily in Brush Colorado and moved to Denver with her family for her senior year of high school. After high school she went to work at National Biscuit Company where she worked with Myrtle McCulley in addition to other family and friends. Myrtle had a son named Harold McCulley and he asked his mom if she would introduce him to Bonnie Davis. Myrtle’s remark was “I will not Bonnie is a nice girl”! Even with that rather cumbersome beginning Bonnie ended up marrying Harold McCulley on May 7, 1950.
Bonnie had two children, Connie Hood (husband Craig Hood) and Ron McCulley (wife Annette McCulley). In addition she had five grandchildren; Kirk Hood, Kara Fischer, Michael McCulley, Rebecca McCulley and Richelle McCulley. She also had three great grandchildren, Dylan Hood, Hannah Hood and Bentley Ann Fontana. Bentley was her newest little granddaughter and she couldn’t have been more proud of her, I’m sure all her friends grew tired of hearing about this little girl. When Bonnie was admitted to the hospital in August they asked her what her goals were, she told them to meet this new little great grandchild and find out if it was a boy or girl.
Bonnie loved to go camping, first with her husband Harold and her young family and later on with her children. She loved to go to the KOA campground in Cripple Creek “the highest KOA in the world”, every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend. The weekend was always full of laughter with a little bit of gambling mixed in.
She was also a huge Bronco fan, in fact I think the Denver Broncos lost one of their biggest fans the day we lost our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved nothing more than watching her team whether it was led by John Elway or Peyton Manning, she just loved to watch her Broncos play, and really loved it when they won. She loved all NFL football games but there was never a doubt who her team was.
She also was a great lover of animals, particularly her dog Daisy who she has had the last fifteen years.
Bonnie was a great Mother, a great grandmother and a great person, and honestly became the matriarch of the McCulley family. She loved her Lord and Savior and she loved her family and friends. She will be missed by many people, she touched people that she met only once or twice. The world will feel a vacuum but heaven just gained another angel.
