Cathy Mitchell Warner, 83, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, finally at rest following a six-month struggle with failing health. A woman of profound faith, Cathy was a devoted and deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister whose life centered on God and her family.
Cathy was born on February 2, 1943, in Pelham, NY, the cherished seventh and final child of Robert and Ruth Mitchell. Being 10 to 20 years younger than her six siblings, she was affectionately known as everyone’s "sweet and darling Cathy." When she was just eight years old, her 25 nieces and nephews began arriving in rapid succession, turning her into a much-loved, highly demanded babysitter. After completing secretarial school, Cathy began her career in New York City as a secretary while moonlighting as a model. Her beloved niece Claire recounted how she and Cathy’s other nieces were always starstruck by how beautiful and glamorous she looked in her tailored suits and high heels.
In her early 20s, Cathy surprised her family by moving to Denver. It was there, in April 1966, that she met and fell in love with Jim Warner. They returned to New York for a beautiful November wedding that same year. Together, Jim and Cathy raised three daughters: Trecie, Nancy, and Karen. Backed by a strong circle of friends, Jim and Cathy faithfully navigated a challenging chapter when Nancy faced childhood leukemia at age three. Through this trial, they forged a remarkably close-knit family.
Cathy always prioritized family time, finding secretarial work at her daughters' schools to remain present in their daily lives. Through supporting her children's interests, she became involved with a local theatre group, the Original Scene, where she costumed shows and even performed on stage.
After Jim’s passing in 2011, Cathy started a new chapter in her life. In these later years, Cathy enjoyed life at Caley Ridge. She built deep and lasting relationships, played bridge, organized prayer groups, advocated for her peers, and became a favorite resident among the staff. Cathy absolutely adored her daughters, lighting up whenever she spoke with or about them. She frequently expressed how proud she was of the faithful, caring, and loving women they became. Later, the arrival of her granddaughter, Lyla, brought immense joy to her life, making her smile in a way only a grandchild can. As much as Cathy poured love into Trecie, Nancy, Karen, John, and Lyla, she was equally adored by them. They dedicated their time and energy to ensuring she had the best life possible throughout her final years.
Always the first to say “I love you,” Cathy will be deeply missed for her smile, her sense of humor, and her gentle ways. While her family mourns her loss, they take comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Jim, as well as her parents and all six siblings, completing the Mitchell family in heaven.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, James Warner Jr.; her parents, Robert E. and Ruth Sanger Mitchell; her four brothers, Bob, John, Jim, and Bill; and her two sisters, Ruth Griffith and Jeanne Morris. She is survived by her three children, Trecie, Nancy, and Karen Logan (husband John); her granddaughter, Lyla; and her sister-in-law, André.
A Rosary will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Church of the Risen Christ, with Funeral Services immediately following at 10:00 AM. A reception to honor and celebrate Cathy’s beautiful life will follow at the church.
