Catherine Saunders Wilburn was born in January 1925 in Suffolk, VA. Raised in Portsmouth, VA, she lived in Kansas, Hawaii, and since 1963, her beloved Colorado. A loving soul to all who knew her, Catherine left us November 11, 2016. Her husband Fred and her first-born son, Donald Lee Wilburn, preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter, Pat Wilburn, son Michael (Barbara) Wilburn, brother Matthew Saunders, cousins: Caroline Greene, Eleanor Thornton, and Thomas (Buster) Creekmore.
Catherine was the daughter of Annie and Matthew Saunders. Her dad was a baker and Annie a mother. Tragically, Matthew passed away the day after Catherine was born.
Catherine’s first job was with the Southern Pacific Railroad which afforded her the ability to go to New York City on the train with her good friends. For most of her working life she worked at the US Air Force Academy in the Athletic recruiting department. For 28 ½ years, she rarely missed an Air Force Academy football game.
She loved her family, traveling the byroads with Dad in the camper, the Denver Broncos and chocolate. While we mourn the loss of Catherine, we take comfort in knowing she and Dad are dancing away the days together.
Services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121. Viewing will be from 9AM to 11AM and a short reception after the service. Short ceremony and burial at Fort Logan National Cemetary on Monday, November, 21st, 2016 at 1:30PM.
