Charlie was born on March 14, 1930, in Corona, Queens, New York, to Charles and Anna Kurtz. He grew up alongside his brother, Robert, and cherished the time spent fishing with his father and brother.
Charlie was a devoted Catholic throughout his life. His commitment to his church and community was reflected in his membership in the Knights of Columbus, where he was a proud and active Knight for more than 75 years.
Charlie proudly served his country in the New York Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Corporal while serving as a Light Duty Vehicle Driver. After eight years of service, he received an Honorable Discharge.
Following his military service, Charlie began his insurance career with The Home Insurance Company in New York City. It was there that he met the love of his life, Inge Knierim. Their relationship blossomed, and they were married in 1956, beginning a loving partnership that spanned seven decades. Charlie later spent most of his professional career with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. His work took him to offices throughout the country, including Manhattan, Syracuse, White Plains, New Orleans, Reno, Sacramento, and Denver. Charlie often joked that he "really got around," and his many relocations allowed him to build lifelong friendships across the country.
Above all else, Charlie was devoted to his family. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Inge, and took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Edward Kurtz.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Inge Knierim Kurtz; his daughters, Linda Jouet (Joe), and Janet Belter; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Merz, Malorie Young, Alexander Belter (Gloria), Zachary Belter, and Matthew Belter; and his great-grandchildren, Peyton Merz, Jacob Merz, and Annabelle Young.
In retirement, Charlie enjoyed traveling, reading, and most of all, spending time with his family. He took great joy in attending family gatherings, sharing stories, and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into the eternal peace of Christ.
Visitation will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, US, on September 24, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. The Funeral Service will follow at the same location on September 24, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with the Committal Service to take place there from 11:00 am to 11:45 am.
