Those who knew Chuck will remember him for his gracious and optimistic spirit, his razor-sharp memory, his love of family and friends, and his deep and abiding faith.
Chuck was raised in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, on his parents’ cattle ranch. He was the son of Glenn Lonker Bloom and Louise Wadsworth Bloom and the brother of Dean Bloom, Betty Buell, and Marie Hanson. Chuck’s formative years on the ranch were filled with joy, hard work, family, and faith. He loved and was fascinated by horses and cattle, and few experiences were more special to him than being on horseback—especially when it involved rounding up and driving cattle.
In 1956, while a student at Wichita State University, Chuck met a young nursing student, Mary Lou Stucky. He quickly fell in love with her, and they married in 1958. Chuck and Mary remained devoted to one another until her death on January 2, 2025. Together, they raised four children: Laurie, Matt, Steve, and Clint. Their daughter Laurie passed away in 1983 following a lifelong battle with a heart condition.
Chuck earned both a Bachelor’s degree and Master of Science from Wichita State University, after which he began a career in financial services. He later graduated from the inaugural class at the College for Financial Planning, and was the first Certified Financial Planner (CFP) in the State of Kansas. His career culminated in many years at EF Hutton, where he served as First Vice President in the Personal Financial Management division. He later established his own financial planning firm, where he continued to serve clients until his death.
Chuck was a faithful Christian throughout his life. He and Mary were members of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, for more than 30 years. Chuck served in multiple leadership roles at Resurrection and at other churches earlier in his life. His faith was a central part of who he was and how he lived his life.
Chuck leaves behind a loving family: his son Matt and Kim Bloom; their sons, Nick and Keaton; Keaton’s wife, Maíra, and their children, Mateo, Leo, and Isabella; his son Steve and Pam Bloom and their children, Madison and Jake; Madison’s husband, Trent Sears, and their daughter, who is expected in March; and his son Clint and his wife, Emily, and their two boys, Fletcher and Sullivan.
Chuck will be deeply missed by his family and friends and remembered with great affection for his kindness, optimism, wisdom, devotion to his family, and unwavering faith.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, in the spring of 2027.
