

Clyde D. Merrick, 84, of Colorado Springs, Co. passed away on Sept. 16, 2014. Clyde was born in Concord, MA., on July 22, 1930. He was raised in Maynard, MA., and graduated from Maynard High in 1948. Afterward, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, transferring shortly thereafter to the U.S. Army Reserve. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in 1953, choosing the Signal Corps as his branch. Clyde gave more than 21 years active federal service. His service led to him being stationed in varied posts throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Greenland, Iceland, Germany, Korea, and Viet Nam. Following the Viet Nam War, he received the Bronze Star and the Valorous Unit Award. Clyde retired from the Army in 1970 in Colorado Springs as a Lt. Colonel. Following retirement, he became an accountant for several health agencies in Colo. Springs. He was an endless source of counsel and love for his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, and his parents Merton and Margaret Merrick. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis, brother David, children; Kathleen Swanson (Michael), Glenn Merrick (Tanya), grandchildren; Scott Swanson (Rachel), Jacqueline Hollingshead (Tyler), Mackenzie Merrick, and Cameron Merrick, great grandchildren; Colton, Ashley, and Morgan Hollingshead, and Samuel Swanson. Memorial service, Tuesday 9/23 @ 11:00 a.m., reception to follow. This old soldier, Clyde, will be interned @ Ft. Logan National Cemetery @ 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 16th.
