Diana was born on October 8, 1955, in Denver. She attended and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1973, studied at the University of Colorado - Boulder, the University of Northern Colorado, Mesa College and obtained her Nursing Diploma from Presbyterian Medical Center School of Nursing in 1979. She then completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Metropolitan State College becoming a Registered Nurse in 1988. Diana had a 42-year career of being a nurse, dedicating her life to caring for others At Aurora Central High School, Diana was an active member of her class participating on Student Council for all four years and being elected President her senior year, was a Silver Boot Dancer, and elected Homecoming Queen. At the University of Colorado, Diana was consistently on the Honor Roll, an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and is a lifelong Buff's supporter.
Diana began her nursing career at Presbyterian Denver Hospital, moved to Presbyterian Aurora Hospital, relocated to Grand Junction and was a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and then moved back to Denver to become a neonatal intensive care nurse at Children's Hospital Colorado where she dedicated herself to caring for babies, children, and their families for 38 years just recently retiring in 2022. Diana truly loved all the babies she cared for and developed persona relationships with the parents of her infant patients, comforting them with her loving kindness.
Diana, who is often referred to as "Sue" by her family was always a generous, kind and energetic person and had an active, full life up until her untimely passing.
She was the oldest of six children who all simply adored her. Sue and her family had a magical childhood growing up in Colorado and spending time at their cabin on Granby Lake, swimming. water skiing, ice skating, skiing and snowmobiling. She selflessly took the responsibility of being the oldest sibling without complaint, always being available to provide advice, counsel and to lend a helping hand throughout her life. She was a person you could always count on to be there when you needed her.
Diana truly dedicated to her family including her two children, her fiancé Bob, Brothers, Sisters, Aunt, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins along with always being active in her community, her church and having many, many friends, and enjoyed several hobbies including skiing, bunco, book club, bible study and travel.
Diana was a selfless leader and would always put others ahead of herself and truly made every effort to make others' lives better. Her kids were her great passion and she loved them unconditionally. She would actively look for ways to help people with considerate gestures and she impacted so many people positively in her life. Our world has lost a beautiful soul and Heaven has gained one.
Sue is survived by her children, Kurt and spouse Amy Rosenthal and Michael Rosenthal of Colorado, her fiancée Bob Burke of Colorado, and siblings, Julie and spouse Alan Schmidgall of Arizona, Wendy Zipps of Texas, Ivy and spouse Jeff Larson of Colorado, Ed and spouse Kolly Newman of Texas, and Matthew Newman of Texas; Nephews Todd Hower of Arizona, Tim Hower of Arizona, Bill Zipps of Texas, Karl Zipps of Texas, Justin Schmidgall of Texas, Taylor Hower of Arizona, Will Newman of Texas, Nick Newman of Texas, Zach Larson of Texas, Dallas Bradberry of Texas and Hunter Newman of Texas; Nieces Tara Rupsch of Arizona, Danielle Roggow of Colorado, Laura Mickler of Texas, Hailey Bloss of Texas and Brooke Bradberry of Texas, Aunt Marylou LaFonte of Colorado along with several cherished cousins in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, California and Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Gloria Newman of Colorado and daughter Lauren Rosenthal of Colorado, grandparents Harold "Pop" and Ila "Momo* Newman of Colorado and Kenneth "Gramps" and Esther "Momier" Weir of Colorado.
