She was born in Taipei, Taiwan on October 6, 1960 and has three siblings - an older brother and younger brother and sister. On December 18, 1987, she married Bordar Fang in their hometown of Taipei before they immigrated to Kansas City to continue their college education at Kansas State University. Shortly after studying in Kansas, she and her husband moved to Denver, Colorado where she graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a Masters Degree in Information Systems. She spent her career as a Software Engineer in the telecommunications industry at Qwest (now Centurylink).
While she worked in software engineering for many years, her true passion and interests were travel, eating good Taiwanese food, spending time with family, and loving God. In her spare time, she was either nose-deep in Rick Steves’ travel books planning her next adventure, watching travel videos or National Geographic, cooking Taiwanese dishes (especially making homemade dumplings), or reading the Bible and worshiping/praying to Jesus.
Adventure was in her blood. She visited 34 countries in 5 continents and planned each trip on her own, always seeking to travel as close to the ground as possible, in order to see more and experience the country and people as a true local. She didn’t mind staying in hostels or traveling light if it meant she could see more, and she always had a motto, “Try to never take the same route.” While she loved each country for their own unique culture, her favorite was Israel for the rich biblical history and being able to see the Bible come to life. She loved meeting locals and would strike conversation with them, with a genuine interest in understanding their way of life.
While travel was a profound part of her life, her faith in Jesus was by far the most important thing. She wasn’t raised Christian but gave her life fully to Jesus around 2012-2015, which shaped the way she lived the rest of her life. Her hunger for the Lord was inspiring, her devoutness, admirable, her faith, joyous. Many hours were labored in prayer for others and spent dancing and praising God. Her love for Jesus poured over into her husband and daughter’s lives and many others. Ultimately, she always considered others as better than herself, seeking to learn from those around her. Her heart was pure, joyful, and loving.
Dinah exuded joy. Her smile would light up any room, and her energy was infectious. She always remained true to herself and did not care about what others thought of her or of keeping up an appearance. She was authentic, down-to-earth, and honest. While communication didn’t always come naturally, her love was unquestionable and so evident through her actions. She was selfless in loving her family and cared for others before herself. She was a hard-working mom who sacrificed much to give her only daughter several opportunities to learn various activities she didn’t get the chance to learn as a child. She encouraged her husband to get out of his comfort zone, bringing him along on every world adventure as her travel partner and designated driver. She loved to make jokes, as well as meet new people and hear their stories. She had a childlike spirit that reflected a pure wonder and dependency on Jesus. That’s all she wanted, to see Him face to face. And now she is resting in His arms in Heaven.
Her husband and daughter now reside in Denver, CO, her mother and brothers in Taipei, Taiwan, and her sister in Vienna, Austria.
The funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 12th at 11am at BridgeWay Church (located at 5201 E Warren Ave, Denver, CO 80222), with a reception to follow. The family asks that you please wear color, and not black, in celebration of her life.
