Domenic L. DeMarte passed away peacefully on Dec 6th 2016. Dom was born in Bessemer Michigan on Oct 10th, 1931 to Domenick & Margaret DeMarte. They were first generation Italians. His father worked long difficult hours in the iron ore mines until an accident left him unable to return. He passed this strong work ethic onto his 4 children, Mary Ann Domenic, Charles and Michael.
Dom graduated high school in 1949 and worked odd jobs to put himself thru Gogebic Jr. College graduating second in his class. He then attended Michigan State University and earned his Bachelors and Masters of Science degree in Geology with honors, was the president of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, and received several scholarly awards including Phi Kappa Phi.
He met his wife Martha Jill Russell in Amarillo in 1962. They married in Feb 1963 in Liberal KS. They had three children David, Nicole and Jason.
Education had always held utmost importance to Dom and he instilled this in all three of his children. His greatest wish was that they all receive a college education and enter the working world without debt. As a man of great determination and discipline he made this a reality.
He was hired by Pickards & Mather Company as a geologist working in NW Quebec and Labrador for 4 years. He continued climbing the ladder of success thru Apache Corp, Skelly Oil Company, Getty Oil and eventually retiring from Trend Adobe as the Exploration Vice President in the early 90’s.
The most notable thing about Dom though was his devotion to his family and faith. He was a devout Catholic all his life and truly a family man above all else.
He is survived by his wife Jill, son David Brian DeMarte (Karey) daughter Lisa Nicole Rost (Rodney) and son Jason Paul DeMarte (Allison) and three grandchildren Melanie G. Rost, Trevor J. Rost, and Emmett I. DeMarte.
