

DONALD R. WALCHER born 1918 in Broomfield, Colorado. Don was the youngest son of Gilbert and Pearl Walcher and had an older brother Gilbert (Junior) (deceased at Normandy in WWII), a younger sister Jeanne (died of cancer in 1975), and survived by his older sister Shirley.
In 1940 Don married Winifred O’Dell. Wini and Don enjoyed over 71 years of marriage, drawn to a close by Don’s passing.
Don and Wini’s family comprises of their children Charles and Jennifer. Charles and his wife Alice have two children, Lori and Nicole. Lori and her husband Matthew have two children, Chloe and Zara. Nicole has two children, Corey and Cassie. Jennifer and her partner Pamela have a large family, too.
During World War II Don served in the US Army and retired from the National Guard as a Lt. Colonel. In civilian life Don worked for Gates Rubber Company and retired as a self taught professional engineer.
When he wasn’t working, Don was an avid golfer and fisherman, and family man. Don loved leading mine tours in Georgetown, for school bus tours from Denver public schools. For many years Don and Wini were actively involved in the State Historical Society, and his other historical hobbies included the Civil War Roundtable of Colorado and studying Colorado History. Don was a member of VFW Post 501 in Denver.
Don passed peacefully on August 28 after complications from cancer.
Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, on Monday, September 10 at 11:00 am
Memorial service will be held at Atria Inn at Lakewood 555 S Pierce St on the same day at 2:00pm
