Doris Mae Miller

July 25, 1929September 8, 2020

Doris Mae Miller, 91, of Miami, FL passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. She was born at home in St. Louis, Missouri in 1929 and grew up with a loving family in Missouri. She met Carey J. Miller when they were both in high school, and they married on September 4, 1948, while attending Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. They graduated from Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas in 1951. Doris attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and graduated in 1955. After graduating, Doris accompanied her husband, who pastored churches in Texas, Missouri, Alabama, Colorado, and Florida.

Doris was an amazing mother and homemaker while raising three children. Then, she worked as an administrative assistant at Cordis Electronics, a medical device company, before her retirement. She was active in Christian ministry. She taught Sunday School for over seven decades, authored articles about Christian life, led Vacation Bible School sessions in South Africa and other locations for many years, and facilitated meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous as part of a Christian ministry. In addition, she was an expert seamstress and cook and enjoyed watching movies.

Doris is survived by her husband, Carey, of 72 years and her children R. Craig, Carla, Keith and his wife Sherry, grandchildren Mariah and Micah, and sisters Wanda and Glenda. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Robert Lambeth and Florence Lambeth.

Memorials for Doris may be made to the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board, 3806 Monument Ave., Richmond, VA 23230

What can I say about my dear friend Doris. She was so loving - and loved by all that knew her. I spent many wonderful nights at their house, eating one of her delicious meals and teaching both she and Carey to play Scrabble. Once she caught the Scrabble bug - she would call and bribe me with a home-cooked meal if I would bring my Scrabble game. How I will miss those times. I lost my own mother many years ago and Doris was a second mother to me. Loving, kind, non-judgmental of everyone, full of wisdom, the best example of a good Christian woman that I have ever known, I spoke to her just two weeks before her passing and she told me how much she missed the "Birthday Girls' group and I told her I would make sure to come to Miami to celebrate her birthday next year. I will forever regret not going this year. I loved her deeply and will miss her for the rest of my life.

Doris was such an excellent seamstress and always looked so put together! I was always impressed with her calmness, but also her wise words, peppered with a true sense of humor. Much prayer to all the family. You are loved!!

I have so many sweet memories of Doris - where do I begin? She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She loved the Lord so very much. She was an excellent cook, kept an immaculate house, and was an excellent Bible teacher. I met her over 63 years ago at Water Tower Baptist Church in St. Louis. I baby sat for the family and loved the children, Craig, Carla, and Keith so much. We had lots of fun together. Our last conversation was on her 91st birthday. She was so happy and we had such a good talk. I will miss her so much. Doris, we will meet again! I know the Lord has given you many rewards for faithful service.
