Dorothy was born at home in Cross Mountain, Colorado, west of Craig, Colorado. On July 25th, 1936. To her parents, Frank Leslie Jacobs, and Waunita Marguerite (Lucas) Jacobs. The home served as their residence, Town Post Office, General Store and Gas Station. The family moved to Denver in 1943 and Dottie, lived a typical childhood of the times. After graduation she met her future husband Duane Laverne Martin. The two were married on November 22nd, 1957. While Duane passed early in life on July 18th, 1987. The two packed a lot into their almost 30 years of marriage. Dottie started their time together as a homemaker and stay at home mom. Wholly focused on caring for her husband and raising their four children Craig, Darren, Chris, and Cathy. But still finding time to touch the lives of her many nieces, nephews, and extended family of friends.
As Duane and Dottie transitioned to empty nesters, Dottie’s focus changed to a career outside the home and service through her work with the Order of Eastern Star. Her career blossomed from clerical work to auditing/investigating insurance fraud. All while becoming a state officer in her fraternal organization. The two were living their best life, looking forward to the now growing number of grandchildren. Then, far to soon, her husband passed.
Still developing her career, Dottie shifted her focus after Duane’s death to the growing number of grandchildren. Eventually totaling 11, Dottie could always be found at someone’s concert, school program, sporting event or other milestone occasion in her grandchildren’s lives. Always finding time for them together like the annual grandchildren Christmas sleepover or individually with the one on one, Grandma / Grandchild vacation trip.
Dorothy is survived by her children Craig Martin (Christy), Darren Martin (Mary), Chris Martin (Vicky), and Cathy Cullar, and her sister, Frances Jacobs. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Duane Martin. Her parents Frank Jacobs and Waunita Jacobs, brother Wayne Jacobs, sisters Shirley Ruth Sawyer and Georgia Eileen Jacobs.
