Eric was a devoted husband and proud father to his beloved 8-year-old triplets. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Akemi, and their three sons, Josiah, Jedidiah, and Jaden; his mother, Judy; his brothers, Brett (Michelle) and Brad (Susan); nephews, Brandon and Tyler; niece, Ella; and a host of extended family both in the U.S.A. and the Philippines.
Born in Springfield, Illinois, Eric grew up in Mt. Zion, where he attended Mt. Zion High School. He was a member of the swing choir, played football, and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He later attended Southern Illinois University before moving to Colorado, which became home for many years.
Eric’s career reflected his adventurous spirit and gift for connecting with people. After moving to Colorado, he worked in a variety of fields, including oil and gas, food sales with Sysco, the mortgage industry, and financial advising with Edward Jones and TransAmerica. Most recently, he worked with Home Path Financial and Performance Food Group, where his warmth and humor made a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike.
Eric shared an especially close bond with his cousins and filled countless days with laughter, pranks, and wild adventures that became family legends. He also kept in touch with childhood friends throughout his life, proof of the loyalty and genuine connection that defined him. Even as a kid, Bubba had an energy that drew people in; he was bold, mischievous, and always up for a good time. That same spark made him the heart of every get-together as an adult—someone who brought life, laughter, and warmth wherever he went.
Bubba never knew a stranger. He was known and loved by everyone he met, from lifelong friends and coworkers to fellow believers at church and those he met during his time living in the Philippines. His ability to connect deeply with people from all walks of life was one of his greatest gifts.
Bubba was deeply patriotic and loved his country. He also enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Bears, spending time at the shooting range, and, perhaps most of all, cooking and feeding people at every gathering. His greatest joy in life was his family. Marrying Akemi and adopting his three sons were the proudest and happiest moments of his life. He was deeply committed to Christ, and his faith guided his love for his family and others, shaping the way he lived and served.
Those who knew Eric will remember his big personality, generous heart, and endless humor. He was outgoing, loving, and always ready with a joke or a thoughtful gift. Eric’s presence lit up every room, and his love will continue to shine through those who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of Eric’s life will be held on Monday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at Mission Hills Church, 620 Southpark Dr., Littleton, CO 80120. Please park and enter through the North Entrance. Alternatively, the service will be live streamed at missionhills.org/streaming.
