Floyd L Hudson

Floyd Louis Hudson Sr. was born in Luther, Oklahoma on January 3, 1930 to Henry and Mattie Hudson. He grew up in Ponca City, OK with his older sister Betty and his younger brother Henry. Floyd attended elementary and junior high in Ponca City, OK. In the 1940s, his family moved to Denver, CO where he attended Manual High School until he was inducted into the US Army on March 3, 1951. He fought in the Korean War as a demolition expert and reenlisted in August 1954. Floyd had many accomplishments. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1956. He received his 10-year Service Award from the US Government General Services Administration and he was awarded his Gold Card from the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. After he served in the US Army, he went on to attend Emily Griffith to receive his GED. For 40 years, he worked in construction until his retirement.

Floyd met and later married Shirley Ann Washington on February 28, 1964. They raised four sons, Glenn, Floyd Jr., Anthony, and Steven.

As a man of strong faith, Floyd served in the usher ministry for over 75 years. He was trained as an usher at 11 or 12 years old. During his long tenure as an usher, he served in three churches, St. John Baptist Church, Zion Baptist Church, and True Faith Church of God in Christ. He also served as a deacon for over 30 years. He was known for his sharp suits and always looked polished when he was on the floor. He was affectionally called Dad Hudson because of his wisdom and faithfulness to God, his family and his church.

Floyd was a dedicated and hardworking man that loved to work with his hands, tinkering with bikes, cars, trucks, lawn mowers, and any repairs needed around the house. He loved the great outdoors and was known for maintaining a beautiful yard. Additionally, he had a wanderlust spirit and looked forward to travelling every year. Floyd was known for his humor, his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Floyd Louis Hudson Sr. departed this life on January 11, 2021. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Johnnie Ruth; his parents, Henry Hudson, and Mattie Singleton Hudson Thomas; and his brother Henry Hudson Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Hudson; his sister, Betty Rolison; his children, Bucky (Donna), Anthony (Deborah), and Steven (Sherri). His grandchildren; Pershia, Bria, Brenden, William, Anthony Jr., Don Tari and Gabriel; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and many friends. Rest well…Floyd…rest well.
