Born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 21, 1930, Frank grew up in Ontario, California, where he formed many of his fondest early memories. He loved returning to the family home there throughout his life, where he took pride in keeping a beautiful garden and yard. That same care and love of the outdoors was evident in Littleton, where his home and yard was always tended with attention and pride.
Frank graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in Geology, and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Following his time at UCLA, Frank proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His service was a point of honor throughout his life, and he carried the lessons of leadership, dedication, and resilience into everything he did. He went on to have a successful career as a geologist in the oil industry throughout the West.
Family and adventure were always central in Frank’s life. He and Evelyn created many wonderful memories with their children, especially at their condo in Winter Park, Colorado, where ski vacations became treasured family traditions. Frank also had a deep love for travel. Together with Evelyn, he explored Europe and collected keepsakes from many countries. A highlight for him was visiting the Czech Republic, the country of his family’s origin, where he reconnected with distant relatives. Mexico was another favorite destination, where he enjoyed the beach, food, and culture.
Closer to home, Frank loved celebrating Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday. He cherished gathering the whole family together for a traditional turkey dinner, laughter, and stories shared around the table.
Frank lived a full life defined not only by his career and service, but by the relationships he built and the joy he shared with others. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether through a joke, a story, or simply his presence. He was as proud of his family’s accomplishments as his own, always cheering them on and celebrating their milestones. His legacy lives on not just in his children and grandchildren, but in the countless lives he touched along the way.
Frank’s wife, Evelyn, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Stephen (Trina) and Mark (Jamie); his five grandchildren, Thomas, Eric (Audrey), Mitch, Luke (Caroline) and Kaylea; and his great-grandchild, Oliver.
Frank will be remembered for his generosity, his contagious laugh, his conversational ability, and his love for family. His smile and ability to strike up a conversation with anybody will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
