In 1948 Gordon married college sweetheart Shirley Wegner and they made their home in Colorado until Gordon became a Special Agent for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover and the family relocated to Philadelphia in 1951. In 1955, Gordon became the first Executive Director of the Colorado Society of CPA’s and the family returned to Colorado to stay. He proudly served as leader of the CPA Society in Colorado for 36 years until his retirement in 1991. It was during this time that Gordon simultaneously served as Executive Director of the Colorado Water Congress from 1961-1972.
Gordon was also committed to Colorado politics and served as Arapahoe County Republican Chairman. He held numerous leadership roles in the state and local Republican Party. As state Republican chair, he was a delegate and floor leader at the Republican National Convention.

Gordon was a founding member and President of the Three Lakes Watershed Association, which has a crucial role in solving water quality issues in Grand County, CO.
Gordon’s love for the Colorado outdoors was sparked by a high school trip to Westcliff where the spectacular scenery inspired him to ultimately settle in Colorado to raise his family. The family spent many years camping, hiking and exploring throughout Colorado. He relished climbing many of the Colorado 14er’s. He loved sailing on Grand Lake in summer and cross-country skiing on the lake in winter.
