She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 3, 1922, to John Irby Morgan and Ethel (Munch) Morgan. She was married on November 15, 1947 to Clyde Thomas “Tom” Wheaton at First Methodist Church of Northville, Michigan.
Harriett was a graduate of Redford High School, class of ’40, and attended Wayne State University. As did many of her peers, she worked during World War II at an aircraft assembly plant in Detroit. After the war, she continued to work at the Willow Run Kaiser Fraser assembly plant, where she met and began dating a young electrical foreman named Tom. When their engagement was announced, Tom’s supervisor said “Good. Maybe now he’ll get back to work instead of hanging around the touchup line where ‘Cookie” works!”
Tom and Harriett raised their three children in Northville, Michigan. They were members of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches, and Harriett also belonged to the Northville Camera Club and the Women’s Club. They moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1983. Tom and Harriett were members of Mountain View Methodist Church. Harriett was also a member of PEO, and volunteered for many years at The Pink Door, a thrift store in support of Boulder Community Hospital.
Harriett is survived by her three children: Tom (Anna Jean) of Ponte Vedre, Florida; Wendy (Scott Bett) of Arvada, Colorado; and Morgan of Bothell, Washington. Grandchildren include Jessica (Bett) Brunecky ofArvada, Diana Bett of Arvada, Allyson Wheaton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tom Wheaton of Bellingham, Washington, and great-grandson Jinun Brunecky of Arvada.
She is predeceased by her husband, Tom (December 22, 2014); brother Jack Morgan and sister Jessie Sult.
Three words that sum up her life: Kind. Funny. Smart.
