She was born in McFadden, Wyoming to John A. and Minnie (Burri) Doherty Saylor on October 20, 1929.
Helene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard F. Youmans; a sister, Irene Forwood; two brothers, Mark Doherty and Paul Doherty; and, a son-in-law, Gregory E. Williams.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Williams of Centennial, Colorado and Melody (Carl) Hollnagel of Platteville, Colorado; three grandchildren, Susan (Mark) Cunningham of Parker, Colorado, John M. (Molly) Williams of Centennial, Colorado and Ryan M. Blomberg (Julie Sheldon) of Fort Collins, Colorado. She is survived by eleven great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
Helene attended Saratoga High School in Saratoga, Wyoming. She graduated a year early from high school and went on to attend the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. She worked for the US Government in the Selective Service and then as a compliance officer for the US Department of Labor retiring in 1993.
She was a talented artist and crafter known for making beautiful, hand-made cards for friends and family. Additionally, she painted ceramics and pictures, made metal art and was a gifted knitter and crocheter. Helene was a skilled seamstress and worked at the Gwen Bowen School of Dance where she sewed many elaborate dance costumes for recitals.
She enjoyed volunteering her time as the secretary for the organization, Dance for All and was a member of the Mayflower Congressional Church United Church of Christ in Englewood, Colorado.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and a Celebration of Life from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. on Aug. 16, 2022 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, Colorado. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
