Howard Lee Reddick died peacefully on November 19, 2024. He was 86 years old. Howard had a deep love for his family. His son-in-law Steve, grandchildren and extended family were able to say goodbye during the last few months of his life. His wife and daughters were with him at his passing. Howard and Linda were married for 64 years.
Howard was born in Texas but his family quickly moved to Oklahoma City. He graduated from college at Oklahoma State University. He earned his degree in education and then during his senior year he met the love of his life Linda Tapp from Ponca City, Oklahoma. They were both going to be teachers and found jobs in Littleton, Colorado in 1960. So, they got married in June, moved to Colorado in July and started their new lives. Howard also earned his Masters degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado later in his career.
Since both Howard and Linda were teachers, our family spent summers camping, hiking and traveling around Colorado to the National Parks and attending the “Ranger talks”. One of his prized possessions was our little pop-up camper. He would often speak with awe of the first time he and Linda drove up I70 and saw the view as they topped the hill at Genesee. He took each of his grandkids on a special hike up to the fire lookout at Devil’s Head so they could get a Squirrel Card. He loved the mountains and passed that on to his family. We all learned how to downhill and cross country ski. The family also spent time back in Oklahoma in the summer and on holidays.
Howard was a teacher and coach in the Littleton Public School district for over 30 years. He loved working with the students, coaching different sports and he spent a lot of time working with young people. We have family stories about how we ran into his students everywhere we went, including Hawaii! He had the rare privilege of speaking with his students as adults and was thanked repeatedly for helping them on their life journey.
Howard had a deep faith and believed that he would spend eternity with Jesus. The family attended Mission Hills church over many years. Howard had numerous great friends from this community in his life. He mentored young men from the church and helped with Home and Health ministries.
Howard retired at the age of 55 from the school district. He remained very active in his retirement. He loved traveling with friends, playing tennis, riding his bike, hiking and playing a lot of golf. He skied well into his 70’s. His favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren, going on adventures and attending all their various competitions and performances. He was so proud of them!
Howard is survived by his wife Linda Reddick; his daughter Tammy Reddick; his daughter Laurie Korff and her husband Stephen Korff; his brother Don Reddick and his wife Suzie Reddick. Also, his grandchildren Andrew Korff, Megan Fetters and her husband Kirk Fetters; and Samuel Korff. There are many nieces, nephews and cousins too. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Kathryn Reddick and his sister Shirley McClain.
Howard passed away at Porter Hospice after a three year battle with brain damage caused by hydrocephalus, heart and lung disease. During his last nine months he lived at a wonderful assisted living community with his wife Linda. We would like to thank the employees at Someren Glen, Gentle Sheperd Care, Brighton Hospice and Porter Hospice. It took a large village of helpers to get our family through to the finish line and we had the best, from the residents living at Someren, to the cooks, physical therapist and the caregivers who sang to Dad. Our heartfelt thanks to you all!
