

In 1945, Jackie met her future husband John, who was serving in the United States Army. They were married in Brussels on May 18, 1946. John remained in Belgium until the birth of their son, Michael, then returned to Sioux City, Iowa to prepare their home. In the fall of 1947, Jackie and Michael made the trip by ship from Bremerhaven, Germany, to New York where John met them. Jackie became an American citizen in 1952.
In 1955, they welcomed their daughter, Jeanne. In 1957, Jackie’s grandfather, Francois Vandervorst and her mother, Marthe Versporten, emigrated to the U. S. from Belgium to Sioux City, Iowa. 1963 saw the arrival of Patrick.
Both John and Jackie had long careers with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Sioux City. In 1983, John and Jackie retired to South Lake Tahoe, CA where they enjoyed the beauty of the lake surrounded by the snow-capped Sierras. 1999 saw the move to Parker, CO.
John passed away in 2005. Jackie is survived by son, Michael and wife, Carolyn; daughter, Jeanne (Iske) and husband Greg; son, Patrick and wife, Leslie; grandsons Chad Iske and wife Lauren; Brett Iske and wife Katey; granddaughter Sarah Stansberry; great-granddaughters Everly and Parker Iske; great-grandsons Cade and Mac Iske and John’s niece Carolyn Bothwell and husband Donnie.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, half-sister Gaby Melsen and husband Marcel and half-brother Jules Versporten and wife Elise.
There will be a visitation at Olinger Chapel Hill, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO 80121, on Monday, September 13, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. A private burial will be held at Fort Logan on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.
