When Jimmy was born on July 11, 1957, doctors did not expect him to live beyond his first year. For the first five to six years of his life, his family was met with one ominous prediction after another. Yet Jimmy had plans of his own. With determination and resilience, he defied every expectation placed before him and went on to live a life that touched many.
Jimmy went on to graduate from East High School in Denver as a member of the Class of 1975. Throughout his life, he held a variety of jobs, but one of his favorites was working for Tommyknocker Brewery. He especially enjoyed that every Friday ended with a six-pack to take home (a perk that always brought a smile to his face).
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Zaidee Reed; his older sister, Diane Hall; and his younger brother, Alan Reed.
He is survived by his older brother, Jack Hicks, whom Jimmy was always convinced was not quite as handsome, or as smart, as he was. That lighthearted sibling rivalry remained a cherished part of their relationship.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Jimmy's cousin, Dede Dixon Pollard, who faithfully maintained a close relationship with him throughout her life. They are also deeply thankful to Paul Russell and Steve Julius, who provided Jimmy with a loving and supportive host home in Aurora, where he was cared for with kindness, dignity, and compassion.
Jimmy's life is a reminder that the predictions made at the beginning of a journey do not determine its ending. He overcame tremendous odds, shared laughter with those around him, and will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
