Passed at Age 84 at November 4, 2021 at Swedish Medical Center
Born June 30,1937 to Elon and Mary Ann DeWitte.
Jan was born on her grandmother's farm near Arlington, Iowa, and grew up on farms in that area with her parents, two sisters, and brother. Janet graduated from the Arlington School in 1955. She married Lee Conner in June 1955. Jan worked for a time before children were born. Together, they had five children. The family lived in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and finally moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1965. Jan was a stay-at-home mother and home-maker for several years before returning to work. She liked sewing clothing and planting and tending gardens, and taught these interests to her kids. She liked traveling around Colorado and the U.S. with the family and Collie/Border Collie dog, Panda. Jan and Lee would divorce in 1976.
Jan was single for several years. She met James McCalmont in 1979 and they married in 1981.
After she and Jim were married, they made a home full of creative endeavors. They had a huge fruit and vegetable garden, and flowers all around the yard. Jan continued to sew, crochet, and cross-stitch, adding to her skills by doing fabric painting, quilting, and creating home window coverings. The grandchildren loved to play and explore in their big back yard.
Jan and Jim enjoyed camping and fishing and Jan caught a big (prize- winning) rainbow trout, which is on display in the dining area at their home. They have beautiful flowers and plants in the patio areas of their home and enjoyed them immensely. Jan volunteered to serve on the landscape committee for their HOA. She learned from this experience and contributed her fair share, making numerous friends in the process. Jan and Jim loved their Shelty dog Kelsey, and enjoyed watching the National Dog Show. They took Kelsey with them on their travels.
Jan enjoyed reminiscing about farm and family life in Iowa. But she also enjoyed reading about new places she hadn't been and had desires to see some of them in person.
Jan began her work career when her youngest started school. One of her first positions was as an Avon representative. She became skilled at bookkeeping and became office manager at the local Woolco department store. She moved on to car dealerships, an oil company, and finally the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Jan also has many friends from her years at work and living in their neighborhood.
She loved having her family around her and watching the grandchildren grow. Jan was a loving mother and a caring person. She loved wildlife and would watch the birds and squirrels from the windows at home. She liked teaching and volunteered at a local school, helping young readers gain confidence in their skills. She was creative and artistic and enjoyed trying new ideas and expanding her skills.
Jan is survived by her husband, James McCalmont, Centennial and her children Lynne Dissette, Centennial; Sheila Ware, Littleton; and Keirnan Conner (Charlene), Littleton, and her grandchildren Laurel Dissette, Littleton; Jacob Brantley, Lakewood; and Erin Conner, San Luis Obispo, CA. Jan has a sister, Audrey Garetson in Lamont, IA. She also has many nieces and nephews, mostly located in Iowa.
Jan was preceded in death by her sons Daniel Conner and Timothy Conner. She was also preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister Marilyn Frieden and brother Gary DeWitte.
