Janetta was born on January 6, 1942, in Lubbock, Texas, to her loving parents Hugh and Dorothy Newton. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1961. Janetta then attended the Elite Jessie Lee School of Cosmetology, graduating with honors in 1962, and became a successful hair stylist at Bill's Beauty Salon. She married Neal Barkley on December 27, 1963. Together, they built a loving family with sons Kurt and Scott, and shared more than 62 years of marriage.
In 1982, Janetta and Neal moved the family from Texas to Englewood, Colorado, where they made their home and formed many lasting friendships. Janetta found joy in cooking, gambling in Black Hawk, shopping, M&Ms, Cokes with extra ice and, most of all, supporting her beloved grandchildren in all their activities and events. Whether cheering from the sidelines or celebrating their accomplishments, she was a constant and loving presence in their lives.
Janetta was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Dorothy Newton; and her sister-in-law, Weezie Mullenix; in addition to many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Neal Barkley; her sons, Kurt (Deanna) Barkley and Scott (Meredith) Barkley; her five cherished grandchildren, Brenna, Kyle, A.J., Shane, and Jack; her sister, Vanetta (Rick) Miller; her brother, Ronald Mullenix; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Janetta will be remembered for her love of family, her lively spirit, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her greatest legacy is the family she loved so deeply, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, US, on September 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Committal Service.
A Celebration of Life will take place at South Sub Church, 7275 S Broadway, Littleton, CO 80122, US, on September 12, 2026, from 2:00 pm with reception to follow.
