

Dorothy Jean Hanes, age 86, of Denver, Colorado passed away on Monday October 10, 2022. Jean was born on April 8, 1936 in Winterset, Iowa to Dorothy Helen Harrison and Joseph Henry Klingaman and Jean was the youngest of 2 siblings. Jean graduated from Waukee High School in 1954, and went on to work with Northwestern Bell Telephone before transitioning into a homemaker after marrying Jerry, and had also worked with H&R Block for 15 years. Jean married the love of her life, Jerry Dean Hanes on October 14, 1956 in Redfield, Iowa, and had spent 65 loving years together.
Jean grew up on her family farm in Iowa, and brought her love for gardening, not only flowers but also fruits and veggies, but also her seamstress abilities with her after moving away from home. She was known for gifting stuffed animals for Christmas one year, and even made memory books for all of her grandchildren.
Jean's husband, Jerry, was in the Air Force when they were married and the couple were living in California. Once Jerry was out of the Air Force, they then returned to Iowa to redirect their lives and that’s when they had their first child four years later. Shortly thereafter, Jerry was hired at the first Frontier Airlines and they moved to Colorado.
Jean is survived by her beloved sister Katherine Mae Klingaman Hadley, daughters Nancy Jo Gill (Mark Gill), Karen Lynn Hanes, and Janet Lee Nolan (Mark Nolan). Grandchildren Joshua Gregory Gill, Brandon Joseph Gill, Lynzey Jean Gill, Nicholas Michael Nolan (Rebecca Sue Nolan), Michael Joseph Nolan (Rebecca Ann Nolan), Elizabeth Marie Nolan. She is also survived by cousin Doris Glick. nephews and nieces; Doug Hanes (Marcia Hanes), Steve Hadley, John Hadley (Roz Hadley), Susan Hadley, Jim Hadley (Laura Hadley) among others.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dean Hanes, father Joseph Klingaman, and mother Dorothy Harrison. John Holomon and Vera Margaret Hanes, and brother-in-law Joseph Willard (Norma Jean Wickliff Hanes), Charles Hadley, along with other nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary on Thursday October 27th, with a visitation at 9 am followed by a memorial service at 10 am with a reception to follow. A committal service will occur Thursday October 27, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO 80436 at Staging Area A.
Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Gill, Brandon Gill, Lynzey Gill, Nick Nolan, Mike Nolan, and Elizabeth Nolan.
