A lifelong Coloradan, Jeff was born on August 21, 1960, in Denver to Morris “Mort” and Lenamae “Lenny” Kartus, and was the middle of three children.
A 1978 graduate of Thornton High School, Jeff went on to build a life centered on hard work and family. In 1983, he married Vanessa, and together they shared 30 years and raised two children, Wesley and Brooke, though they later divorced.
Jeff was able to retire after 35 years to a distinguished career in the natural gas field with Xcel Energy, he took immense pride in the grit and determination he poured into his work.
Jeff was happiest when surrounded his grandchildren, his dogs, or by the roar of motorcycles and classic cars. He was famously stubborn and fierce. Jeff valued his independence above all else; living life on his own terms until the very end was a point of great personal pride.
Jeff is survived by his son, Wesley Kartus, and his wife Lauren; his daughter, Brooke Stephenson, her husband Rigel; and Jeff’s brother and sister, John Kartus and Cindee Malito. He was the proud grandfather to Carrera and Ronin Kartus, and Taj, Zuri, Tylee, and Jaelyn Stephenson, all of whom will remember him for his unwavering spirit. He also leaves behind a large community of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Lennamae Kartus.
Jeff will be deeply missed, but his influence remains in the strength of the family he leaves behind.
A Memorial Service will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, US, on May 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
