Jerome (Jerry) Reed passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of his two devoted sons. Jerry was born on April 27, 1937, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Howard Charles Reed and Irene Bower. As the youngest of three children, Jerry’s upbringing in the heart of the Midwest shaped his values alongside his siblings Bert (Annalee) Reed and his sister Patti (David) Hallstrom. Jerry was a man of traditional American principles and believed in serving his community through hard work and compassion for others. He was a gentleman of unwavering faith, an educator.
In 1959 Jerry married Clarene Leonard while attending college at Fort Hays State University (FHSU). They had two sons, Steven and Stanley Reed. After his first marriage, Jerry married Patricia (Isbell) Reed for 52 years and became a step-father to Janie, Carrie, and Lisa. Jerry extended his service to the community as a member of the Elks Lodge, Lions Club International, and the FHSU Alumni Association. He became the Patriarch of a large family and touched the lives of countless others as a devoted Christian, loving father, and mentor. Jerry was a dedicated lifetime High School educator, coach, and high school superintendent throughout the high school system of NW Kansas. Jerry also was a longtime family farmer in Sheridan County, KS.
Jerry celebrated his last few years with his two sons: Steven (Shelley) Reed and Stan (Donna) Reed. Upon moving to Colorado, he became closer to his beloved and cherished grandchildren: Kayla (Titus) Hoffman, Courtney Reed, Matthew Reed, and step-grandchildren Cade (Erin) Boreing and Sutton (Devin) Tucker. Jerry also enjoyed and cherished visits with his nephews and niece Billy (Vicky) Hallstrom, Melissa (Cecil) Lane, Charles Reed, and Christopher (Ronda) Reed. He found great energy and fun exploring Colorado and local attractions with his great-grandchildren: Micah, Henry, Clara, and Weston.
Jerry found great enjoyment in completing the restoration of his father’s antique car, a 1928 Dodge Senior Six touring car, exploring the mighty vistas of Colorado’s mountains with family, and spending time with his treasured friends playing cards, and rooting for the men’s KU basketball team, and trading family and life stories.
Jerry is now in eternal peace with his parents, siblings, and lifelong and recent friends in Heaven!
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the care of Jerry from all the staff of Sunrise at Orchard, and the steadfast care and friendship of his physical therapist, Cathy Doyle. They thank you all for being here today, and for your efforts to travel from near and afar to provide your love, support and to celebrate Jerry.
A celebration of life for Jerry will be held on March 15, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Olinger Chapel Hill, located at 6601 S. Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO.
The family invites you to stay for a reception and fellowship. Grab a bite, and we will raise a glass to Jerry and his well-lived life.
