

Jim was born on September 11, 1938, to A.J. and Lorraine McCormick in Denver, Colorado. His family moved to Chugwater, WY, in 1948 and then settled in Casper, WY, in 1951. Jim earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming. Jim was a member of the TKE Fraternity and the Wyoming National Guard in college. He married his college sweetheart, Mary Virginia Smith, on June 6, 1962.
Following college, Jim and Mary moved to Texas, where Jim worked in the oil and gas industry in Texas and Oklahoma. The family then settled in Colorado in 1971. Jim had a very successful career and worked in the oil and gas industry for over 50 years before he retired in 2013.
Jim loved his family life, enjoyed skiing, golf, skeet shooting, and reading. He always had a quick wit and a joke for any occasion. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a caring nature and a great smile, and he will be deeply missed and remembered forever in our hearts.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Mary, his sisters, Kathy Hamby and Barbara Bergquist, and his brother Daniel A. McCormick. Jim is survived by his daughter Lorraine and her husband David, his son Donald McCormick and his wife Deanne, his grandchildren Melanie Sanchez and her husband Jason, Katarina Washechek, Colby McCormick, Evangeline McCormick, and his great-grandchildren Stefan and Adalind Sanchez.
The family will hold private memorial services for Jim. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes support of the Wounded Warrior Project and the Alzheimer’s Association.
