Joal Wayne Ham, born in Denver August 10, 1951, went to be with his Lord in his eternal home January 29, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Johanna, and two brothers, Marvin and James. He is survived by a sister Karen, a sister-in-law Brenda, a niece Jamie, two aunts Bette and Helen, an uncle Ken, several cousins, many friends, and a wonderful church family.
Joal worked as a houseman first at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in downtown Denver before it was torn down to make room for modern developments. He then worked many years at the Cherry Creek Inn as a houseman, now the Hilton Garden Inn, until his early retirement in 2006 mostly due to a variety of health issues. After retirement he led a simple but happy life. He enjoyed taking his mother and their pet Jack Russell terrier for daily rides around Washington Park. After his mother’s passing the rides continued in the early morning including a stop to pick up donuts for himself and his sister.
He enjoyed watching movies, first on VHS, then on DVD. He enjoyed comedies and musicals, his favorite being "The Sound of Music". He also enjoyed watching TV. In addition to newscasts he liked game shows, particularly "The Price is Right", "Jeopardy", and "Wheel of Fortune".
Joal loved the Lord and his wonderful church family. He attended church faithfully when his health permitted, and really liked the singing accompanied by the organ. When the church organ no longer was in working order, he got many CD's with organ music, and would frequently listen to those at home or in the car.
In the last two and a half years of his life, Joal faced many health challenges and was in and out of hospitals and care facilities. In each one he met many loving and caring staff members and fellow residents. At his most recent facility, Hilltop Post Acute, he got into BINGO, played as much as he could, and won a lot which he was very proud of.
He was dearly loved by his sister and many others, and he will be missed, but we rejoice in the victory he has now found in Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hilltop Park Post Acute, 290 S Monaco St Pkwy, Denver, CO 80224 in Joal's honor.
