JoAnn Marie Devers

JoAnn Marie (Sunde) Devers, the daughter of Lloyd and Edna (Theesfield) Sunde, was born on December 2, 1939 in Triumph, Minnesota. She passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Littleton Adventist Hospital at the age of 74.

She was raised in small towns and on farms in Minnesota and Iowa where she spent her high school years walking beans and detasseling corn. She attended school in Fenton Iowa, graduating high school in 1957. After high school, she worked as a local telephone operator. She then attended Lutheran School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Following her graduation, she packed up and moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked as a Registered Nurse at Presbyterian Hospital. During this time, she met the love of her life, Rich Devers.

Rich and JoAnn were united in marriage on December 17, 1960. From this union, two children, Bob and Joni were added. Rich passed away in November of 2006

During her time in Colorado, JoAnn worked at various hospitals and doctor’s offices doing what she enjoyed the most in life, taking care of people. JoAnn enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, golf, and playing cards. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bob and his wife Denise; daughter Joni and her husband Chuck Swigart, all of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; four grandchildren, Ashley and Alyssa Devers, Madison & Axel Swigart; two sisters, Nancy Petersen of Savage, Minnesota and Linda (Larry) Geitzenauer of Fenton, Iowa; brother Roger Sunde of Minot North Dakota; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rich, her parents, her brother, Jim Sunde, who proceeded her in death by 8 days and her brother in law, Jim Petersen.
