John Henkel, 58, of Centennial, Colorado, Naperville, Illinois and Tucson, Arizona, born March 10, 1962 and at rest October 24, 2020 in his family home. Beloved son of John and Joanna Henkel; loving husband of Stephanie and devoted father of Hannah, John (fiancée Megan) and Holly; cherished brother of David (fiancée Vicki); sweet uncle to Charlie, Kelsey, Harry, Nicholas, Christopher, Sofie, Justin, Haley, and Angie; son-in-law of Thomas and Judeen Schedler; brother-in-law of Ann and
Shawn Heming and Scott and Dee Ann Schedler; cousin of Lisa (Tony), Julie (Stuart), and Mike (Christy); nephew of Al (Lucy) and the late Betty; professional ball thrower to Lucy the lab; and friend to all who were lucky enough to know him.
Born and raised in Tucson, John grew up surrounded by his loving family and plethora of friends. He remained in Tucson through college as he attended the University of Arizona earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance. A born entrepreneur, John thrived in college, profiting off charging fraternity party entrance fees.
Upon graduating, John launched his business career for real, starting up a property management company with a few friends. He eventually tired of the desert and sold his portion of the company before moving to the Windy City. There, John began working as a trader on the Chicago Board of Options Exchange.
One fateful night out, John met the love of his life, Stephanie at local Chicago bar, Kelsey’s. After refusing a good night kiss, Stephanie eventually agreed to let John pursue her. The pair began their life together and were married in 1993 at St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
After the birth of their first child, Hannah, the couple decided to move to Naperville, Illinois, where they raised her along with their other two children, John and Holly. In 2012, John purchased a franchise of Online Trading Academy and moved the family to Colorado. Here, he combined his love for trading with his passion for connecting with and enriching the lives of others.
John always surrounded himself with family, whom he loved and valued more than anything. He enjoyed time spent cooking up meals, without a recipe, laughing with friends, debating politics, sipping on wine, and exploring new cities. John never stopped learning and was always researching news articles, reading non-fiction books, and watching the History Channel.
John will be remembered for his positive attitude and ability to make sense of any situation, no matter how dire. He always gave the best advice and was never afraid to share how he felt. John will be greatly missed and remembered by the enormous number of people whose lives he impacted.
A visitation will be held for John on Sunday, November 1 from 11am-3pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO.
