It is with heavy hearts that we announce Joseph Andrew Baird’s peaceful passing while at home on April 16, 2025 after a 6 year battle with cancer. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend, Joe lived a life full of unwavering dedication to his family, commitment and pride in his career, and love for spending time outside in his home state of Colorado.
Born on November 24,1946 in Pueblo, CO, Joe was known for his kind and generous spirit, and commitment to serving others. Upon graduating from Colorado State University, Joe served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Korea. Upon returning from the military, Joe built a fulfilling career in the moving and storage business, where he was respected for his integrity and hard work. For Joe, it didn’t matter what day of the week it was, or time of day, he would always make sure the job was done right and the people were taken care of. In the community, Joe was active in the Kiwanis Club of Denver, and he served as a volunteer at his grandchildren’s elementary school. He was also a founding member of the Colorado Masters Running Association, a nonprofit organization run by volunteers to promote running for health and exercise, where he volunteered for 40 years and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. In his neighborhood, Joe was known to seek out ways to care for neighbors, including shoveling their walks and driveways after many Denver snowstorms. His many achievements and contributions are only surpassed by the devotion and moments of joy he shared with his family and friends. Joe loved watching the Broncos and the Nuggets, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and watching the sunset while enjoying a margarita in his favorite vacation spot, San Diego.
Nothing brought Joe greater happiness than being a grandpa to his 4 grandchildren. Whether it was watching a sports practice, or attending events at their schools, spending time with his grandchildren brought him immense joy. He was often found on the sidelines and in the stands at his grandchildren’s sports games in rain or shine, and always wearing shorts. His cheers for a great play, encouragement after a tough loss, and attention he gave to the time he spent with his grandchildren will be greatly missed.
While in his journey battling cancer, Joe found community, support and hope from the staff and patients at Sarah Cannon Research Institute. Sarah Cannon’s team of medical professionals were unwavering in their commitment to his care and wellbeing, and their support brought great comfort to Joe and his family during treatment.
Joe’s family gave him great strength and support, especially during his home hospice care. Joe leaves behind Ann, his beloved wife of 49 years; daughters Sarah Glover (Joe) and Kate Oberleas (David); grandchildren Joseph “Jack” Glover, Grace Glover, Gavin Oberleas, and Lucas “Luke” Oberleas; as well as his siblings, Beth Ann Baird, Catherine “Cathy” Baird, Marjorie “Margie” Baird, Georgia Baird, James “Jim” Baird, Jr (Yun), many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Baird and Elizabeth Baird.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held in Denver at a later date, where family and friends will be invited to share their memories. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to Project Angel Heart, an organization that delivers meals to Coloradans living with cancer and other severe illnesses.
