Called Ron a few years ago after my mother’s death, and just found this old business card of his and a pile of papers. Emailed him, and thought I should try Facebook where we’d also chatted, and you know.

Ron was my therapist during two difficult times in my life’s journey. Kind, considerate and caring, he always made me feel better about myself.  He even made a call to see how I was doing after I stopped sessions for many years.  When I had to resume again, it was if I had never been gone.  He knew to ask the right questions and never had to be “refreshed” about the happenings in my life.  I am sure his passing has left a void in many lives.  My condolences to his family during such a difficult time to lose a family member.

ELEGY 

I have never seen so many sea birds 
floating and paddling around
in this corner of the back bay.  
Gulls and terns and rails, 
and little balled up plovers bumping around
near the big Brandt geese 
with their short necks and dark heads.

The longer I sit and watch 
the more I see the quiet wakes behind the movers,
bubbly clumps of rails close by the shore,  
darting and  pecking along the wet mud,
all as if pondering the day,
images moving in like the tide.

Lifting my eyes out to this side of the sand spit.
I see flocks, colonies and congregations of birds,
manifold images diminishing in size 
leaving only black dots on easy water,
then nothing but shimmer.

Swirling, sweeping curves of surface water,
as if someone is slowly dragging a paintbrush along the top.
It feels like Heaven’s corner.
Graceful patient movement,
hiding whatever tension lies below the surface,
deeper currents 
pulling in from below.

You died yesterday, she said,

I would have read you this poem 
you would have told me all you loved about it
and by proximity, me.
And I would be relaxing into the sound of your voice, 
low and growly like a sweet dog at play.

There was a home for me 
there in those moments,
not unlike this corner of the bay 
for these mulling,
passing few hundred birds.

I remember one of our trips to Denver he had asked me to help him set up motion sprinklers around his garden to keep rabbits and birds out, We got it set up and turned the water on to test it. Every time I walked by them nothing would happen but when Ron walked by he would get sprayed. We laughed so hard. He always had something planned for me to do when we visited as he knew I didn't like to sit idle. There were many fun times with him he will surely be missed. 

Ron Carducci was my mentor, business partner and most importantly friend for years.  He was larger than life and truly a Renaissance man. From cooking,  baking sourdough bread, to raising tomatoes; he loved all aspects of life. He was so inquisitive   and loved being a psychologist. I was heartbroken when he moved to Denver. We had been business partners for years before that move.  He and I used to laugh that our only conflict had been over my use of teabags. I saved tea bags for a second cup.  Some  remnant of the Depression era "Waste not, want not" mentality.  Ron did not like me leaving it on the counter--imagine!
     Ron loved  his "girls" and grandchildren. He felt so blessed to find Felicia from his high school days.  He leaves a big hole in so many people's lives. Goodbye dear friend.  You will be sorely missed. love Merle
