

Joy Lynn Parkhurst passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, compassion, service, and devotion to others.
Born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, to Noel and Georgie Smith, she graduated from Waynoka High School in 1955 and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She was instrumental in developing and writing the Special Education curriculum for Colorado Springs, helping to shape educational opportunities for countless students.
An accomplished businesswoman, she owned and operated her interior design company, JP Interior Resources, for more than 25 years. Through her creativity, vision, and attention to detail, she helped clients create beautiful homes and lasting memories.
A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of the Greenwood Community Church from its inception. Her gracious spirit, caring heart, and unwavering compassion touched everyone who knew her. She believed that kindness was one of life’s greatest gifts and taught her sons and grandchildren the importance of serving others, showing compassion, and living with integrity.
She shared a remarkable 64-year marriage with her beloved husband, Dan Parkhurst. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Georgie Smith, and by her twin daughters, Kristen Dawn and Dana Lynn.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dan Parkhurst; her son Brett Parkhurst (Elizabeth) and her son Kent Parkhurst (Alisha), and grandchildren Lauryn and Ashley Parkhurst, Lauren Hanner (Shane), and Camille White. She also leaves behind sisters Wanda Wyand, Ladonna Webb, and Lafon Anderson.
Her life was a testament to faith in action. Through her commitment to her church community, her love for her family, and her compassion for others, she made the world a better place. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the countless lives she touched.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that her example of love, grace, and service will endure for generations to come.
