Born to Roger and Betty Hendricks on September 5, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Judy was preceded in death by both parents, her brother Tim Hendricks and sister Susan Hendricks. She is survived by her beloved husband Russ DenBraber, her sisters Barb Hendricks and Mary VanderGalien; her son Eric and daughter-in-law Stephanie DenBraber; her daughter Melanie and son-in-law Luke Egolf; her daughter Lisa DenBraber; and her daughter Christine and son-in-law Charlie Carroll. Judy’s legacy extends to her grandchildren, Micah and Ike DenBraber, Ben, Sam, and Molly Egolf, and Violet and Oliver Carroll.
As a devoted wife and mother, Judy found pure joy in raising her four children. Her home was a sanctuary of love, filled with laughter, support and countless cherished memories. Judy’s dedication to her role as a mother extended beyond the walls of her home. She actively engaged in her children’s education, volunteering in schools and attending numerous sporting events, piano recitals, choir concerts, plays and musicals. Her unwavering presence in her family’s life provided each member a strong foundation and sense of security.
Judy had a heart full of compassion and a genuine desire to serve others. She was known for her selflessness, always ready to lend a helping hand or provide comfort to those in need. From preparing meals for families facing difficulties, visiting the elderly, volunteering at the local hospital, or providing a home to newborn foster babies Judy exemplified the true essence of living her life of faith through kindness and generosity.
Judy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devout Christian, she found solace and strength in her relationship with God. During medical procedures and times of uncertainty, Judy would often sing the hymn “When Peace Like a River,” a testament to her trust in Jesus and belief in the power of prayer. Judy and family were active members of the churches in the communities the family lived in including Alger Park Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in Grand Rapids Michigan, Bethel CRC in Los Angeles, California, Winfield CRC in Wheaton Illinois, and finally First CRC in Denver, Colorado.
One of Judy’s greatest joys in life was being Grandma/Gaga to her seven grandchildren. She embraced this role with open arms and abundance of love. Whether reading books, hosting sleepovers, going on trips to the zoo, strolling through the mall, or creating cherished memories during family vacations, Judy reveled in the precious moments spent with her grandchildren. Her love and devotion will forever be etched in their hearts.
Judy DenBraber’s absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. Her faith, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the communities she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
A memorial service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held on January 18th at 11 am at First Christian Reformed Church of Denver.
