Judith Arlene “Crickett” Newell Moyer passed away on April 16, 2021 at age 73 in her home with her
daughter, son-in-law and critters by her side and under the care of Denver Home Hospice.
She was born on July 23, 1947 in Colorado to Cecil and Ellen Newell and grew up on a ranch in Brighton,
Colorado, the youngest of her 5 siblings. At age 14, her family sold the ranch and moved to Carbondale,
Colorado where she graduated high school. She married Leroy Moyer on November 23, 1975 in
Colorado Springs where she lived for over 40 years and gave birth to her only child in 1977. She was a
lifelong native with the exception of a couple years in Tucson, AZ where she transferred for her job in
banking administration in the early 70’s. After marrying her husband, they created a successful stained glass business which she ended with her husband’s passing in 1992. Upon becoming a widow, she bravely reinvented herself and went back to school and became a certified and licensed massage
therapist. She also began working as a unit clerk at Memorial Hospital, where she held various positions
in various departments through the years until her retirement from the NICU in 2016, when she went to
live with her daughter and son-in-law in Aurora.
Judy Crickett had a fascination with the past and belonged to the Colorado Archeological Society for
close to 20 years, volunteering for many surveys and digs, including the McAlister House Museum in
Colorado Springs. This fascination of the ancient along with her love of Native American cultures led her
to Hopi. She spent many years of her life visiting her kindred family on the Hopi reservation and along
with her husband procured food, clothing, pot belly stoves for the kivas and other items for her beloved
Bear Clan. Her hobbies were numerous including gardening, her pets, sewing and quilting, beadwork
and crafting. She was a voracious reader and owned thousands of books, but particularly loved
cookbooks. She loved travel and had explored 8 countries and almost every state in the US. She was a
very dear and special person to the many who knew her. She was an amazing woman of powerful
acceptance, unconditional love, brutal stubbornness and spunky sass. All who knew her are the better
for it and she will be remembered for her loving and caring nature, her life well lived and all her many
stories.
She is survived by her daughter Dawn and son-in-law Mike Fradkin, her brothers Cecil “Sonny” Newell,
George Newell and sister-in-law Jeannie Newell, sister Ruth Gould and brother-in-law Art Gould, 16
nieces and nephews and her beloved best friend Virginia who was faithfully by her side her last 2 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Ellen Newell, sister-in-law Patricia Newell, brother
William “Bill” Newell and sister-in-law Barbara Newell, brother Charles “Chuck” Newell and sister-in-law
Geraldine Newell, and her husband Leroy Loren Moyer.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her honor to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado.
