Karen Sue Ham

She was born on November 17, 1952 in Denver, Colorado. Karen was the beloved daughter of Alexander Thomas Ham and Johanna Dorothy Ham.

Throughout her life, Karen was known for her faith, kindness, sense of humor, and her commitment to her family. She had an infectious laugh that you heard a lot when she was with her family. She graduated from Denver Christian School and went on to obtain her teaching degree from the University of Colorado. Her teaching career led her to Kansas City, Kansas for 30 years teaching German and English. Here she made new friends and a new community and touched many student’s lives teaching.

Above all, Karen cherished family, friends, faith, serving God, and her pets. She loved her animals very much and treated them as her children: Abby, Spunky and Ellie. She was very involved with her family home church, First Christian Reformed, when she moved back to Denver in the mid 2010s and was involved with many groups for prayer, bible study and fellowship. She loved her family and was a big support and caretaker for both her mom and her brother Joal at the end of their lives.

Karen is survived by her niece Jamie Villante; sister in law, Brenda Ham, and many cherished friends and loved ones in Denver, Kansas City and around the country.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Alexander and Johanna, her siblings, Marvin, James and Joal, and other family members that meant a lot to her such as Donna Zordel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to First Christian Reformed Church, or that acts of kindness be performed in Karen's memory.

Though Karen is no longer with us, her love, wisdom, and the memories shared with family and friends will remain forever in our hearts. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Please share memories you have with Karen over the years.
