

Kay Ellen Chilcoat age 77, passed away on Thursday, March 26 after a long and debilitating illness. She is now at peace having been released of her burden. She was born on September 16th, 1942 to Edward and Ellen (Goble) McCabe in Shelbyville, Indiana. Her parents moved to Mesa, Arizona shortly after her father's discharge from the U S Coast Guard following World War II. She attended Mesa public schools and graduated from Mesa High School in 1960. She attended and graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She subsequently married and to this union four children were born. She and her family later moved to unincorporated Arapahoe county (now Centennial Colorado) in 1970 and she lived in this community for most of her remaining life. She attended Arapahoe Community College completing the requirements to become a Registered Nurse. During her subsequent medical career she practiced her art at St. Lukes Hospital. St. Anthony Hospital Central and in the final years of her career, at Porter Denver Hospital. She was a compassionate and caring health care provider throughout her career finally retiring from nursing in 2007. During those years she and her mother raised her children with love and care. Her home was filled with her children's friends and a frequent meeting place for her neighbors. She remarried later in life and this gave her an opportunity to travel. She was able to visit many countries in Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States until health problems began to restrict her activities. She was preceded in death by her loving mother and father and an older brother, Edward McCabe, Jr. who died early in childhood. She is survived by her husband, Donald Chilcoat, her children Thomas "Mike" Blodgett, Greg (Lori) Blodgett, Patrick Blodgett and Melissa (Mike) Bates, her grandchildren, Amber Blodgett, Amanda Blodgett, Mitchell Bates, Sarah Bates and Ryan Bates. She was a beloved wife, mother grandmother and friend to those who knew her.
