Leonard Allen Somers, age 57, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado passed away unexpectedly at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Leonard was born July 17, 1960 at Fostoria City Hospital - Fostoria, Ohio to Thomas Nathan and Donna Jean (Lang) Somers. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Nathan Somers; brother, Steven Thomas Somers; maternal grandparents, Anton and Theresa Lang; paternal grandparents, Carl and Sara Somers; numerous aunts and uncles; as well as his fur-baby, Keno. Leonard is survived by his mother, Donna (George Reinhart) Newlove of Fostoria, OH; sister, Carol J. (John) Banks of Littleton, CO; brother, Scott J. Somers of Fostoria, OH; nephews, Ryan S. Bame of Littleton, CO, Andrew (Amanda) Somers of Marysville, MI, Jake (Adrianna) Somers of Marysville, MI and Matthew Somers of Fort Wayne, IN; niece, Mallory (Adam Ellis) Howard of Littleton, CO; sister-in-law, Donita Somers of Marysville, MI; his fur-baby, Juneau "Juny Bug"; and other loving family and friends. Leonard also held a very special place in his heart for two amazing ladies: his dearest friend, Carol Goodall of Tabernash, CO; and his girlfriend whom he loved so, Joanne Jacobs of Littleton, CO.
Leonard had an unimaginable passion for the great outdoors and he found all these adventures in Colorado. He built a home in Tabernash, CO and later had to sell it due to the injuries he suffered from his November 2013 skiing accident. His truest of all outdoor passions was paragliding. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Paragliders Association. He loved music and knew how to play several instruments well. He was quite good at playing; especially the Mandolin and Harmonica. He was wild and crazy at music concerts; so many memorable memories for many. He loved to have fun, and he had a skill of drawing folks in, and then spoiling them with love and affection. He was AMAZING, and we all have learned a little something from Leonard. Those are your treasures to keep, forever.
Leonard is now soaring high and watching over us. He has truly his earned “permanent wings”. He loved his dog Juneau. She saved his life two different times and is our family hero. She will spend the rest of her days in the mountains living with a dear friend until she goes to meet her Daddy again. They will then be set free to join his other furry daughter, Keno. They will all be the happiest ever then.
Although he is now pain free, we will all miss our Daddy (Juneau’s), Son, Brother, Uncle, and Dear Friend. He had a sweet soul, he had so much wisdom, and strength and perseverance beyond belief. He was a fighter, and a PROUD man. He worked hard his whole life to be successful. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, and his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was intelligent and logical. He was loved by so many and their hearts will ache forever. His legacy will live on, in many, one way or another. His favorite saying was “Peace Out”. For those that knew him well, that was Leonard. He will never be forgotten. He left love prints on our hearts, as Juny Bug left paw prints on his. She meant the world to him. He will be missed sorely forever and ever…
