Leslie was born the youngest of four brothers in Brooklyn, New York on August 12th, 1943 to the late Alice and Alberto Gomez. He was married to the love of his life, Roseann, on September 14th, 1968 with whom he spent the remainder of his days. Les and Roseann had four children: Michele, Lorine, Michael and James. Sailing the waters from Point Lookout on their boat, the “5 G’s” near Jones Beach, Les and Roseann were grateful for a life they were able to create in New York. In 1982, the two made a bold decision to move the family to Colorado to pursue an opportunity within the growing architectural sales industry of Denver, CO.
Les resided with Roseann in Littleton, CO, providing for his family while pursuing many passion projects and hobbies such as fishing, boating, remote control airplanes, model trains and tropical fish. Les enjoyed cuisine, from Michelin star restaurants to Coney Island hot dogs to Roseann’s take on a traditional Yucatan inspired Mole. Perhaps what Les enjoyed the most, however, was connecting with people. As he was known to say, he possessed and continually crafted the ‘gift of the gab.’ He was always interested in striking up a conversation, having a philosophical debate or negotiating a deal - whether it be with a friend or stranger. He carried with him a lifelong curiosity and inquisitiveness while challenging his children to think critically and independently within all of the many and varied situations that life presents. Les enjoyed a good laugh and did not take himself, or others, too seriously. Even though his quick wit and wisecracks would sometimes land him in trouble, he highly valued people, relationships and the joy of human connection.
Over the last several years, Les’ chronic back pain and other ailments restricted his ability to enjoy activities such as Rockies games, family outings and day trips to the mountains. Despite these issues, he remained able and willing to ‘throw’ a proverbial ‘flame’ with a special twinkle of jest in his eye. He continued to enjoy watching his youngest grandson play with a new train set or conversing with someone about the latest social and political issues making the headlines. Les will be missed by those who loved and knew him well and his spirit will live on through those who had the opportunity to connect with him.
He is survived by his wife, Roseann, his brothers, William and Roy
Gomez, his children, Michele (Gomez) Jones, Lori, Michael & Jamie aka Pete Gomez, many nieces & nephews, and his grandchildren, Melia & Zoe Cleckler, Ella & Sydney Bowen, and Julian Gomez.
