Born on November 8, 1950, in Richmond, Virginia, to John and Doris Harman, Lory lived a full and passionate life defined by her intellect, curiosity, resilience, and above all, love.
Her first and greatest joy was being a mother to her daughters, Ashley Morris and Courtney Maksymov. She poured her heart into raising them with compassion, strength, and unwavering support—a devotion she carried forward to her seven grandchildren, whom she absolutely adored. Known affectionately as “Lita,” Lory introduced them to the magic of Disney, the tart sweetness of grapefruit, the power of music, a fascination with history, and the deep-rooted value of family genealogy.
A lifelong learner, Lory earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in education. She believed fiercely in the power of knowledge and sharing it with others. Her life’s work spanned a rich and varied career: she worked as a professional model, a published author, and served on a presidential commission under President Ronald Reagan. She contributed to environmental conservation through her work with HawkWatch International, taught GED courses in prisons—offering hope and education to the incarcerated—and ultimately found her calling as a high school English teacher, where she inspired generations with her love for literature, language, and life.
Lory is survived by her daughters, Ashley Morris (Dan) and Courtney Maksymov (Eldar); her cherished grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Ben, Lena, Brinley, Emory, and Zach; her sister, Sandy Harman; her brothers, John Harman, and the late Ray Harman; and her two nephews, Michael and Nick Semenuk, and their loving families. She was the proud widow of Derek Lyon, whose memory she carried with her always.
A celebration of life will be held on July 7 at 3 pm at Orchard Park Healthcare facility, where friends and family will come together to celebrate Lory’s extraordinary life and lasting impact.
Lory will be remembered for her boundless heart, brilliant mind, adventurous spirit, and the love she gave so generously. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, always.
A celebration of life for Lory will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Orchard Park Health Care Center, 6005 S Holly St, Centennial, CO 80121.
