Born on December 19, 1956 in the US Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, Lynn was the beloved daughter of Robert J. Bower and Barbara Bower. She grew up in Fairfax, Virginia attending the W.T. Woodson High School where she was a member of the Baton Corp and the1973 Homecoming Queen. Lynn attended Northwestern University in Chicago where she graduated with a degree in Education. After graduation, Lynn pursued her passion for early childhood education by attending the AERCO/Philadelphia, Montessori Teacher Training Program, where she was trained in the classic Montessori method. Soon after, she began teaching at the Chiavalle Montessori School, Evanston, IL. Lynn was committed to early childhood education and loved caring for and teaching young children. She pursued her interests at some of the best pre-schools in the Denver area, including My School Preschool where she spent eighteen years. Lynn attended the Pilates Center, Boulder, CO where she earned a certificate in the Advanced Teacher Training program. She went on to build a career as a certified Pilates Instructor, teaching at Evolve Pilates in Denver for several years. She then had her own Pilates practice through internet classes and home teaching for five years holding classes for friends and family. Lynn also enjoyed teaching water aerobics and obtained a certificate to teach from The Aquatic Fitness Professional Association. Lynn built strong and enduring friendships through teaching school and Pilates.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, friend and hockey mom, Lynn will be remembered for her warm smile, forgiving nature, compassion, grace, generosity, sense of humor, and her dedication to family and friends. Married to Robert Key on June 23, 1984, she and Robert had a successful marriage for 42 years. When she wasn’t teaching, she especially enjoyed skiing, hiking, biking, walking, and swimming at the Arapahoe Tennis Club. Lynn loved the gatherings at the family cabin in Breckenridge and was an accomplished skier. She passed the ski test in her twenties and was a summa cum laude graduate of the Key Ski School of Hard Knocks. When grandchildren entered the picture she jumped at every opportunity to take care of them-feeding them bottles, taking them to swimming lessons, soccer games, hockey practice, gymnastics and having them over for sleepovers. Nothing gave her more joy than bringing the family together for holidays and celebrations. Lynn was the baker and salad specialist at home, making every special occasion even more special. It was these activities and interests that provided the foundation for her friendships and family bonds which gave her such unforgettable relationships and personal satisfaction while providing an avenue of love for all.
Lynn is preceded in death by her younger brother James Scott Bower and her father James Bower. She is survived by her mother Barbara Bower, her children Maxwell L. Key, Robert L. Key, Jr, and David M. Key III, six grandchildren (Mckenna, Bridger, Connor, Landon, Etta, and Alice), and countless other loving family members and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, hospice staff, medical teams, and friends who came to visit, care for and support Lynn during this difficult time. The effort and positive influence these people provided will never be forgotten.
Lynn will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. We know her soul will rest in eternal peace.
Memorial services will take place on October 29, 2026 at Olinger Chapel Hill, 6601 South Colorado Blvd at 3:00 PM.
