Margaret was born in Billings, Mont. to Antonio “Tony” and Casilda Gonzales Duran on July 11, 1923. She later moved with her family to Worland. As a very young woman, Margaret worked in the beet fields in and around Worland. She was also a housekeeper for many of Worland's "old" families.
She met and married the love of her life, Lawrence Alvarado, in Worland on Dec. 17, 1944, Margaret and Lawrence moved to Houma, LA. with Texas Gulf Corporation in 1968. Their "Cajun" friends” became very special to them. They moved to Green River with Texas Gulf in 1978. Later, due to Lawrence's illness, they moved to Littleton, Colorado in order to be closer to family. Margaret and Lawrence were married for 54 years until the time of his death in 1997. She never left Lawrence's side, even when he was very ill in the last years of his life. In Margaret’s last years, she resided with her eldest daughter, Helen, in Corona, CA.
First and foremost in Margaret's life was her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a life-long, devout Christian. Next to her God, Margaret was completely devoted to her family.
She will long be remembered for her cooking - Mexican cuisine and her legendary "twists." Margaret also loved working in the yard, spending time in her flower garden and taking care of all of her plants. Margaret had a very keen sense of humor and will be remembered by many of Worland's Hispanic community for her loving and caring nature. She was also a role model for all of us on how to live a good and virtuous life. Some of Margaret's favorite memories centered around the dinners prepared with the women of the Spanish Assembly in Worland.
Margaret was the last survivor of her siblings: Pete (Gertrude) Gonzales, Alice Gonzales, Nativida (Jess) Garcia, Benita (Clyde) Leyva, Julia (Andrew) Leyva, Leo (Virginia) Gonzales and Richard (Josephine) Gonzales.
