Marshall Sims Ferrill of Littleton, Colorado passed away on June 22, 2026. “Bud” as he was known to family and friends, was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 29, 1948, to Olga Sims Ferrill and Hulsey Emerson Ferrill.
Bud moved to Colorado with his family at an early age and spent the majority of the rest of his life as a Denver area resident. At the age of 8, Bud entered the Littleton, Colorado, school system, attending until he graduated as a member of the Class of ‘66.
In 1970, Bud enlisted in the Navy and completed a 3-year stint of service before being honorably discharged. The time he spent on the USS Fechteler during those years were particularly memorable and served as the basis for both amusing stories and valuable insights on how to approach living his life in the years to come. He remained proud of his service and his membership in the USS Fechteler Association, where he celebrated and maintained ongoing contact with those he served alongside.
After his time in the Navy, Bud returned to Littleton, CO, where he eventually settled in as a long-term resident, maintaining an almost 40-year residence as a friend and neighbor, and becoming a fixture of the neighborhood. He spent his working years helping others as a building engineer, locksmith, and in security, among other careers.
In his free time, Bud enjoyed a job done right and exhibited this tendency through his meticulous craftsmanship in leather and wood working as well as knot-work. Bud’s standards for his craftsmanship were as exacting as his standards for the way he lived his life, and he would often introduce you to an item he’d made for you by pointing out the one niggling area where he’d had to merge a stitch together or make a minuscule adjustment.
Nevertheless, he produced a binder filled with meticulously completed woodworking, leather working, and hand-tied knotwork projects—each one crafted to heirloom quality and worthy of being owned, used, and proudly displayed. The vast majority of these were passed on to friends or family as signs of admiration, recognition, or friendship (often all three).
Bud is survived by his stepson Justin(Robyn); his grandson Kenneth; his brothers Huck(Diane) and Joel(Natalie); his nephews Ryan, Patrick, Brett; and his nieces Kristin and Shea. Bud is also survived by Carol, his former spouse and lifelong friend.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne; his parents, Hulsey and Olga Ferrill; and his brother, Christopher.
Services will be held at Olinger’s Chapel Hill in Centennial, CO on July 24th at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to Bud's favorite charity, The ASPCA:
