Mary Sylvia Schwartz

Mary Sylvia Schwartz, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on September 28, 1933, in Freeport, Illinois, to Gladys and Arthur Franz.

Mary was first married to Rowland R. Doerr on August 16, 1952. They later divorced and he passed away on December 30, 1989. In 1974, she married Howard Schwartz, with whom she spent many happy years until his passing on January 11, 1997.

A woman of great talent and dedication, Mary worked as a secretary, seamstress, and organist. She joined the choir and served as the organist for her church, sharing her musical gifts with the congregation. For many years, Mary was also the accompanist for the Silverado Chorale, where her musical talents brought joy to all who heard her play. She was also an active member of the Silverado Travel Club, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends and fellow members.

Mary’s family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her four children: Michelle Swepston, Susan Ballard, Julianne Rohleder, and Richard Doerr; her two stepchildren, Carol Rau and Steven Schwartz; as well as her siblings, Georgiann Sands, Carolyn Bair, and brother Arthur Franz. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will always remember her with fondness and affection.

Mary’s kindness, warmth, and unwavering support of her family and friends will be deeply missed. Her faith, devotion to her community, and her lifelong love of music will continue to inspire those who knew her.
