Michael “Mike” Stofka, 74, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Thornton, Colorado, after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. He was surrounded by family, with his beloved brother and sister at his side.
Mike was born in New York to Melba and Steve Stofka. He attended Regis High School and later earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. A member of Mensa, Mike was known for his sharp intellect and insatiable curiosity.
Throughout his life, Mike wore many hats. His primary passion was building custom homes. His care and craftsmanship were palpable in every home he built. When his illness made home building difficult he got his masters and became a counselor.
His passions were both analytical and creative, reflected in his writing, his work, and his conversations. He enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and guitar. You might also have caught him reading philosophy at meals on occasion. He shared part of his thoughtful perspective with the world through his book, The Plan, available for free at helpfulacts.info.
Mike is survived by his children, Michele Stofka, Dan Stofka, and Brian Stofka; his brother, Steve Stofka; his sister, Melba Stofka-Mott; and his two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Melba Stofka; his father, Steve Stofka; his brother, Tom Stofka; and his son Oliver Stofka.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Mike’s life will be held at Maggiano’s in Downtown Denver at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2nd. All who knew and loved him are welcome.
Mike will be remembered for his humor, intelligence, and a kindness that he shared with all. As he once shared in his book:
"When you seek happiness for yourself, it will always elude you. When you seek happiness for others, you will find it for yourself." – Anonymous
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
