Minda Irene Walters
July 25, 1954 – May 20, 2020
Minda Irene Walters (aka Mindy) passed away on Wednesday May 20, 2020 at the age of 65. She was in the care of Assured Assisted Living at House #2 in Castle Rock, Colorado. Mindy suffered from Frontal Temporal Dementia and the physical deteriorating side effects of the neurological disorder. She passed in her sleep at approximately 5:45am MDT.
She had a great life and was a wonderful granddaughter, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, friend, wife, mother, grandmother and a Christian lady. She attended the First Christian Church in Odessa Missouri during her youth. Her mother was diagnosed with Hodgkin disease and was receiving cancer treatments when she was in middle and early high school years. Mindy was the caregiver for her father and two sisters. She received an award at the end of the 6th grade for the most polite female student in school. She was active in school, playing in the band, singing in the choir, and as a cheerleader. She was the drum majorette for the marching band which placed first in most competitions. She played her oboe at district and state music contests both in solo and with instrumental music groups receiving many blue ribbons. She was involved in Rainbow and had a part time job at the Odessa Ice Cream Factory.
Upon high school graduation, she attended a one year college program and achieved a secretarial certificate. She was an executive secretary at Commerce Bank in Kansas City, Missouri. In August, 1973, she was married and in September, Commerce Bank transferred her to a branch in Columbia, Missouri as an executive secretary while her husband finished college. In September, 1974, she worked as a secretary in an apartment complex in Blue Springs, Mo. She gave birth to a son in December, 1975. She moved back to Odessa, Missouri in the spring of 1976 with her husband and son. She gave birth to a daughter in December, 1979.
Over the course of 17 years she moved 17 times. During that time, she lived in Odessa and Blue Springs Missouri, Marion, Illinois, Hugo and Anadarko, Oklahoma and Grants, New Mexico. She was a teacher’s aide, started a day care in the family’s home, started and managed a pre-school at the church the family attended, started a Campfire group and a local sorority during the 17 years in Oklahoma. She also had a successful Mary Kay business and was recognized several times in Dallas, TX. She was also recognized as the “Woman of the Year” by the Anadarko Chamber of Commerce several times. She provided support and aid to her niece with makeup and hair during “Our Diamond Miss” competitions. She was active in church attending every Sunday and supporting the children’s ministry. She moved to the Denver area in June 2000. She was a pre-school teacher until the preschool closed. She was a very active, loving and Christian person.
She is survived by her husband Ray Walters; her sister Beth Walker and husband Jim of Lipan Texas; her brother-in-law Jerry Baker and his wife Leslie of Smithville Missouri; her son Brandon Walters and his wife Laura and their two daughters Madison and MaKenzie of Odessa Missouri; her daughter Tannille Campbell and her husband Stephen and their two sons Ryan and Reese and their daughter Raygan of Parker, Colorado; her niece Stasha Coker (aka Baker) and her husband Chris and two daughters of Kansas City Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her sister Cynthia Lynn Baker, her mother Charleen McNatt (aka Lange), her father Jerome Clement McNatt and her father-in-law Robert Wade Walters.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and administrative staff of Assured Assisted Living specifically, Noel, Loida, Apple, Flor, Richard, Blair, Brian, Francis, Kathy, Ernesto and Allyson for the care they gave Mindy in her final days. Also the caregivers and administrative staff of New Century Hospice specifically, Susan, Susan, Donna, Donna, Peggy, Cherisse, Christina, Gregory, Kathleen and Ally for the care of Mindy and the support the family received.
